The jump from Medium to Difficult on Normal setting is almost too steep, at least at first. I'm not sure if this is because enemies were simply coded to be tougher in the port, or if the gamepad is to blame, but either way I found the challenge even on the first playthrough much steeper than before. On Master Level I on PS3-the difficulty settings don't translate exactly it turns out-death came often and I was making frequent trips to town to get my armor repaired. While I can load up a new character on "Normal" difficulty and boost the Monster Power to 10 and do just fine on PC, I found myself struggling on Normal/Difficult on PS3, especially earlier on when my gear was still low-powered.

The console port is also harder than the PC version. The console port basically fixes this, even though I still wish there were more character customization options beyond better loot and new skills. That's what the game is all about, and the auction house really did kill the fun of the loot hunt for me and many gamers. While it was nice to be able to sell good gear on the auction house (I only ever bought or sold with in-game currency, never real money) it's still better to just find better drops.

You'll have a few pieces of Legendary equipment after your first playthrough, and you'll consistently find better stuff than you do in the PC version, though Blizzard will be bringing "Loot 2.0" to PC as well. With the always-online requirement and the auction house gone from the game, Blizzard has doubled down on making loot drops more rewarding.

What you lose in easy menu navigation you gain in the fun of local cooperative play. Playing on a TV, the UI can be a bit too small, and of course none of it handles quite as elegantly as it does on PC. Managing inventory and skills with the Wii U gamepad would have been a breeze. Actually, I wish Blizzard had done a Wii U port for the game. Inventory management stuff just won't ever work as well with a gamepad as it does with a mouse-and-keyboard. The UI and inventory/skills screens have been changed to interact better with a gamepad. If you've played Diablo III recently, you know essentially what to expect here. Then again, Demon's Souls never throws 90 monsters at a time at you, and I imagine with so much stuff going on on-screen, Blizzard had to make some sacrifices. Games like Demon's Souls came out several years ago and still have smoother looking models. While it's not a big deal, I do think Blizzard could have punched the graphics up a notch. You probably won't notice this too much sitting on the couch and playing on your TV, but if you happen to play your consoles at your desk on a 23" monitor, it's a lot more obvious. While the backgrounds look great, characters and enemies are pretty rough around the edges. Graphics are a bit of a downgrade compared to the PC version.
